Weekend in Paris!

Bonjour! This past weekend (June 8 to June 10) I got to travel to Paris and meet with one of my best friends. Emily has been studying abroad since January so I hadn't seen her since early December. We had a wonderful time catching up and exploring the city together all weekend.

Friday, we were both exhausted from travelling and wanted nothing more than to curl up with a bottle of wine and a good movie. Hoping a quick lunch-dinner, we stopped at Così for some sandwiches. I ordered a Turkey Apple Curry sandwich and an ice-cold Coca-Cola. I was skeptical at first, worried that the apple curry would be a little spicy, but was pleasantly surprised by the sweet-savoury flavour. I wish there had been a little more of the curry added, as the turkey was very dry, but overall it was a decent meal that filled me up after a very long day. After doing some window-shopping, we made our way home to our air-conditioned hotel and crashed.

We started our Saturday morning early at the Louvre to explore the gorgeous artworks. We did not grab breakfast beforehand, so by the time we exited the Louvre we were very hungry (we had spent three hours wandering around the Louvre, including one hour completely dedicated to trying to find Mona Lisa). Our first stop was Le Carrousel for a Caesar pizza (not pictured) that was truly delicious. The chicken was a bit dry, but the cream dolloped in the middle of the pizza certainly helped. Afterwards we made our way to Sébastien Gaudard Pâtisserie for some macarons (of course). We split six of them: two pistachio, a vanilla, a caramel, a chocolate, and a cafe. They were all absolutely delicious! Emily's favourite was the pistachio (she had made us order two so that she could have one all to herself), but my favourite was either the vanilla or the chocolate. The fillings had amazing flavours and the cookies were soft with a little flaky outside. I think I understand more the craze about macarons now.
Our Sunday was much more relaxed than our Saturday. Rather than running around Paris to catch all the sights, we took our time at breakfast to enjoy our pastries and coffee from Le Bonaparte. I opted for a buttery croissant that was perfectly flaky and fluffy, pairing it with an espresso. Emily chose a chocolate filled pastry and a cappuccino to start her morning. I managed to steal a quick bite of her pastry and immediately wished I had chosen the sweet treat instead. However, I still greatly enjoyed by simple breakfast.

After touring the Musee d'Orsay, the last thing on my to-do list for Paris, we stopped at a crêperie for some crepes. Emily ordered a Nutella-banana filled crepe while I ordered a raspberry jam filled crepe. Once again, Emily allowed me to steal a bite of hers and I loved it. The Nutella-banana combination with the thin, soft crepe was delicious. The raspberry jam within my crepe also complimented the thin pastry very well, but I wish they had gone a little lighter on the jam. I could tell it was very freshly made jam and could feel bits of seeds within it, but it was almost too-sweet for my liking. With a thinner spread of jam inside the crepe, I would have enjoyed it more.
